Andrea's Dreams - Loving God
Andrea loved to play.
Every afternoon after school, she would toss her bag aside and run outside. She laughed, she skipped, she chased butterflies, and played with her friends until the sun dipped low and the sky turned orange and pink.
“Homework, Andrea!” her mother would call.
“Coming!” Andrea would shout—though she often came very slowly.
One evening, after playing extra long, Andrea finally sat down to do her homework. Her eyes felt heavy. Her head nodded once… twice…
…and before she knew it, she was fast asleep.
In her dream, Andrea found herself standing in a strange and shining place. The ground sparkled like glass, and the air shimmered with light—but something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
A long, winding line of people stretched far into the distance. Some were crying softly. Others were weeping loudly. Andrea looked around.
“I don’t know anyone here…” she whispered.
Her heart began to pound.
“Mommy? Daddy?” she called softly.
No answer.
Far ahead, at the front of the line, stood a great, glowing throne. With huge books opened up. It was bright—so bright it almost hurt to look at. Andrea knew, somehow, that this was God’s throne.
One by one, people stepped forward.
And then…
…it was Andrea’s turn.
Her feet felt heavy as she walked.
Suddenly, a huge screen appeared—like a giant movie theatre in the sky! Pictures began to play. Andrea saw herself… every moment of her life.
She saw times she was kind…
…but also times she ignored others.
She saw when she told the truth…
…and when she didn’t.
She saw when she obeyed…
…and when she chose not to.
Andrea’s stomach twisted.
Then a loud, booming voice filled the air. It was powerful like thunder, yet clear as a bell.
“Your name is not in the book of life.”
“Depart from Me… I do not know you.”
Andrea gasped. “What?! That can’t be right!” she cried. “I go to church every Sunday!”
There was a deep silence.
Then the voice spoke again, calm but firm:
“If you love Me, you will obey My commandments.” — John 14:15
Andrea’s eyes widened.
Before she could say another word—
she woke up.
Her heart was racing.
“That was just a dream…” she whispered.
She rubbed her eyes, finished her homework quickly, and climbed into bed.
Soon, she fell into a deep sleep again.
But this dream was different.
Very different.
Andrea opened her eyes and gasped.
It was dark.
The air was thick and hot, like standing too close to a fire. A terrible smell filled her nose—the worst she had ever smelled. Around her were loud, painful screams.
People were crying out in fear and pain.
Andrea trembled.
“Mommy? Daddy?” she called again.
But still—no answer.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
She lifted her head and cried out, “Jesus! How did I end up here? I’m only a child!”
Everything went quiet for just a moment.
Then, softly—but clearly—she heard the same words echo in her mind:
“If you love Me… you will obey My commandments.”
Andrea froze.
She began to understand.
Going to church wasn’t the same as loving God.
Singing songs wasn’t the same as obeying Him.
Knowing about God wasn’t the same as living for Him.
Tears streamed down her face.
“I didn’t try hard enough to obey…” she whispered. “I didn’t always choose what was right…”
Suddenly—
she woke up again!
Andrea sat up in bed, crying.
Her mother rushed into the room. “Andrea! What’s wrong?”
Andrea threw her arms around her. “Mommy, I had a scary dream!”
Her mother hugged her tightly. “It’s okay. You’re safe.”
Andrea sniffled. “Mommy… I don’t just want to go to church. I want to really love God… I want to obey Him.”
Her mother smiled gently and wiped her tears.
“That’s exactly what God wants, my dear,” she said.
From that day on, Andrea still played and laughed…
…but she also tried her best to obey, to be kind, and to show love every day.
Because she learned something she would never forget:
Loving God isn’t just about what we say…
It’s about how we live.
