One day, Jesus and His disciples were traveling to Jerusalem. As they approached the city, Jesus sent two disciples ahead with special instructions.

"Go into the village," He said. "You will find a young donkey tied there. Untie it and bring it to Me. If anyone asks why you are taking it, say, 'The Lord needs it.'"

5

The disciples immediately understood why Jesus wanted a donkey. They remembered the words of the prophet Zechariah, who had said many years before that God's chosen King would come riding on a donkey as a sign.

When they arrived at the village, everything happened just as Jesus had said. They found the donkey, and when the owners asked what they were doing, the disciples replied, "The Lord needs it." The owners gladly let them take it.

The disciples brought the donkey to Jesus, placed their cloaks on it, and Jesus rode toward Jerusalem.

As He entered the city, crowds gathered along the road. They spread their cloaks on the ground and waved palm branches in the air.

"Hosanna!" they shouted. "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!"

15

The people were celebrating because they believed Jesus was the King God had promised to send.

16

But some Pharisees were angry when they heard the crowd praising Jesus.

"Teacher," they said, "tell these people to stop!"

Jesus replied, "If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out in their place."

The disciples smiled as they watched. Everything was happening just as God had promised through the prophets long ago.

22

Jesus was not the kind of king people expected. He did not come with soldiers or weapons. He came with humility, peace, and love.

That day, as the people waved their palm branches and praised Him, they welcomed the One who is King of kings.

25

And today, we can praise Him too, because Jesus is King forever.
