Small Lunch and a Big Miracle

My name is Joel, and I will never forget the day I met Jesus. That morning, my mother packed me a nice lunch—five bread rolls and two small fish. “It’s not much,” she said kindly, “but God can use even small things. Listen carefully to Jesus today.” When I reached the hillside, I saw thousands of people gathered there. Then I saw Jesus. He was teaching everyone about God and heaven. I moved closer because I wanted to hear every word. People brought sick family members and friends to Jesus and I watched in amazement as He healed them. People who were blind got back their sight, and those who were hurting felt better again. Jesus healed everyone. Late in the evening I heard Jesus tell his disciples, “Let’s feed the people." His disciples looked shocked when he told them that. “You know we have no food here Jesus” one said. “There are too many people,” said another. “And how could we feed them all?” Peter asked. I remember what my mother said so I shouted, “I have my lunch here Peter. You can give it to Jesus!” I handed him my lunch and Jesus told everyone to sit down on the grass. He then took the bread and fish into His hands, looked up to heaven, and prayed, thanking God for the food. After praying, Jesus began to divide the bread and fish and handed pieces to the disciples to give to the people. I couldn't believe my eyes! The more Jesus broke the bread, the more there was. The more the disciples shared the fish, the more fish appeared. Every time the disciples thought the food might run out, there was still more to give! Basket after basket, row after row, the food kept multiplying. Everyone ate until they were all full! I even got more than enough to eat. My tiny lunch had become food for thousands! When everyone finished eating, Jesus told the disciples, “Gather the leftovers so nothing is wasted.” The disciples picked up twelve baskets full of food—far more than I had brought! That day, I learned something I will never forget: Jesus cares for people and provides for their needs. When we give what we have to Him—even if it seems small—He can use it to bless many people.
