Jesus is Tempted
After Jesus was baptised in the River Jordan, something very important happened.
The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to test his obedience.
The wilderness was a dry, lonely place. There were no houses, no shops, no crowds—only sand, rocks, and wild animals. The sun was hot in the day, and the nights were cold.
Jesus stayed there for forty days.
He did not eat any food.
By the end of those days, Jesus was very, very hungry.
While Jesus was weak and hungry, the devil came to tempt Him.
Satan said:
“If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus could have done it. He had the power!
But Jesus didn't want to use his divine power for personal gain. He would do it only if or when God wanted him to so it.
So Jesus said:
“It is written: People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from God.”
Jesus chose what was right—even though He was hungry.
Then the devil took Jesus to the highest point of the temple.
Satan said: “If You are the Son of God, jump down! God’s angels will catch You!”
The devil was trying to trick Jesus into showing off.
But Jesus did not try to prove anything.
He answered again with God’s Word:
“It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.”
Jesus chose what was right—even though He could have amazed everyone.
Then the devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world.
“I will give You all of this,” he said, “if You bow down and worship me.”
It sounded like an easy way to become king.
But Jesus knew only God deserves worship.
He said strongly,
“Get away from Me, Satan! It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”
Jesus chose what was right—even when it would have been easier to take a shortcut.
Then the devil left Him.
And angels came and helped Jesus.
They gave him strength.
Even though Jesus was tired, hungry, and alone, He did not sin.
He trusted God’s Word.
He obeyed His father.
He chose what was right.
What Can We Learn?
Sometimes we feel:
- Hungry or Tired,
- Angry or Left Out
- or Upset
But feelings do not decide what is right.
Jesus showed us that we can choose to obey God no matter how we feel.
When we are tempted, we can:
* Remember God’s Word
* Pray
* Say “No” to wrong things
* Choose what pleases God, just like Jesus did. When we choose what is right, God is pleased with us.
