Jesus Teaches Us to Pray
Have you ever wanted to talk to someone you love? Maybe you talk to your parents, grandparents, teachers, or friends every day.
Did you know that God wants us to talk to Him too?
Talking to God is called prayer. Prayer is simply speaking to God and listening to God. We can thank Him, ask Him for help, tell Him how we feel, and ask him to help others.
One day, Jesus' disciples noticed that He often went to quiet places to pray. His disciples watched Him and saw how important prayer was to Him.
One day, after Jesus finished praying, one of His disciples said,
"Lord, teach us to pray."
Jesus was happy to teach them.
He explained that prayer is not about using fancy words or trying to impress people. Instead, prayer is about talking honestly with our Heavenly Father.
Then Jesus taught them a special prayer that we now call The Lord's Prayer.
He said:
"Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen."
